Tourist in Our Town
The Tourist in Our Town project grew from an eight-week Billboard residency at Chalvedon School in Pitsea, Basildon, Essex. Working with a core group of 40 young people (but conducting workshops with nearly 300 students in total), the Billboard team worked with Chalvedon students to create an ambitious performance work that combined film, drama, art, and writing into a playful yet powerful statement about young peoples' hopes for Pitsea's future.
The images and videos on this page offer a taste of the project's ultimate event, which the students titled The Hitchhikers' Guide To Pitsea. The event was presented three times on 10 May 2007 to audiences of students, teachers, parents, and community leaders.
