Futurecity and project partners Channel 4 Talent are working with young people from the Thurrock Youth Cabinet to create a documentary about regeneration in the Thames Gateway and about how young people can have a say in the development of their future towns and cities. The Youth Cabinet have been training over the last few months to develop their reporting skills. At the project launch during the Thames Gateway Forum they interviewed key delegates to give them information, ideas and opinions in the mobile Billboard studio.

The Ch4 documentary centres on the idea that while investment in Thames Gateway includes many tangible building and regeneration projects there is still a great requirement for hope among its current inhabitants. Much of the footage already captured on the streets of Thurrock identifies peoples’ concerns about a dwindling sense of pride, community and inspiration that is fundamental to the health of the entire area in the long term, and more specifically a lack of development opportunities that will engage the next generation in positive ways. The Youth Cabinet efforts at the forum will take direction from these findings and move the story on by comparing the hopes of the Forum attendees with the size and nature of the task before them.
