The Billboard LAB is a pioneer in modern British design and engineering. The vision and concept was developed by Futurecity, who coordinated a design team including AOC Architects, Atelier One, Tyler Hayhurst and SheetFabs. This portable multi-media studio takes the form of a converted shipping container that slides apart to reveal a fully-functioning filming suite with editing facilities and a separate diary room. At 10 metres long and 3.5 metres high the eyecatching pillar box red media LAB is the first of its kind to be commissioned in the UK.
The Billboard Lab is be kitted out with the latest video equipment and studio technology to create a professional shooting environment. Portable shooting kits also allow young people to go out ‘on the road’ to interview members of their community as part of the project. Full broadband access and a bank of laptops help young people communicate their work through the billboard project website – a hub for young people’s involvement in the regeneration of their towns and cities.
Key to the success of the Billboard lab is the focus on the powerful branding developed by Futurecity.
